Are you in 7th-12th grade in Crook, Weston, Converse, Niobrara, Platte, or Goshen County or have a student in one of those grades?
And will you be in Douglas for the Wyoming State Fair on Aug 14th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.?
Stop by the Eastern Wyoming College booth! GEAR UP Program Coordinator Sherrie Peif will be on hand to answer questions about GEAR UP and what we can do for you or your child!
GEAR UP is a fun and creative way to get students interested in a post secondary education, whether that be a community college, trade school or a traditional four-year route.
GEAR UP offers many FREE opportunities to your students over their time in middle and high school, (we start in seventh grade to begin the excitement of a post-high school life).
Some (definitely not all) of what we offer includes:
* Educational (but fun) field trips.
* College visits — we will es**rt your student (and you if you'd like to accompany) to the colleges of his or her choice (in person in most cases, or virtually if they are out of the country or we are unable to make travel arrangements) to see if the school is a good fit and to find out what it takes to get admitted. While there, they will talk to admissions, financial aid, athletics if needed, and get a tour of the school, sometimes experiencing the cafeteria and dorms depending on distance traveled.
* GEAR UP scholarships
* Hathaway support
* Dual and concurrent enrollment support
* ACT preparation
* Waivers to retake the ACT for FREE up to 4 more times
* ACT waivers for sophomores to take for FREE to prepare for the test their junior year
* Other test preparation
* Family events that include rodeos, basketball games and more
* Parent support for enrolling and helping with other college information
* FAFSA help
* Scholarship help
* Tutoring
* Summer camps
* Much, much more!
All GEAR UP services are free to both students and parents!
GEAR UP Wyoming has been tracking student outcomes over the course of the program. From 2017 to 2024, the initiative has delivered strong results:
* 96% of GEAR UP seniors graduated from high school
* 62% enrolled in postsecondary education
* Students collectively received over $13.6 million in GEAR UP and Hathaway scholarshipsor
