Women in Technology (WIT) and Society of Women Engineers (SWE),
As we approach the end of the school year, we would like to send a few more thank you's...

Thank you to all who participated in our "End of Semester Celebration." A thank you to Cynthia for her homemade pecan cheese cake,
Kristen for the cute cupcakes, Jose for the famous flan, Brandon for his secret "dump cake", Tanille for the pizza, Maria for the chocolate
fountain (everything tastes better with chocolate), and all the other goodies and snacks. A special thank you to the faculty who stopped by ...
Mark Fields (Administration of Justice), Ray Lewis (Administration of Justice), Pati Gebert (Cosmetology), Vera Bruce (Fashion),
Ed Hofmann (Machine Tool Technology), and Earl Warren (Fire Tech). We are always happy to see the Industry & Technology faculty
and staff stop by to visit with WIT and SWE.

Also thank you to all our Scholarship Winners and Graduates (Certificates and Associate Degrees). We have been celebrating you for
several weeks but today is the big day...Graduation! Come join us today, Friday May 13 out at the Library Lawn for the "Graduation Reception."
Family, friends, students, staff, and faculty are all invited for the food (mini appetizers), fun (taking pictures with the grads), and festivities
(choir performances, announcements, retirees). Come celebrate with us! We will be out at the Library Lawn starting at 12 pm. Look for the
"Green Balloons" at the WIT/SWE table. We look forward to seeing you there!

We still need surveys completed so we can apply for grant funding. If you have not completed the survey at the last SWE/WIT Meeting,
please go to the following link:
http://goo.gl/forms/5dwJAgrkww
Our grant is due very soon so your input is critical. Thank you in advance for your participation in this survey.

Speaking of surveys and research, if you are still interested in participating in the "Women in STEM" Research project with Garrett Whelan,
please contact us right away.He is still in the process of interviewing people for his research for his EdD at Fullerton College. Contact Victoria
if you are interested.

In addition, at the last meeting, we were discussing some possible Summer WIT-SWE activities such as industry tours, college visits, museums,
BBQ, picnics, beach, tech/science movies, etc. If you have any ideas please share them with us. Since many members are taking summer school,
we will definitely be around. Victoria and Cynthia will working in the ITEC START Center (ITEC Room 109) so stop by and say "hi." We will be
sending out lists of activities as soon as they are confirmed. Watch out for your WIT-SWE emails. Sometimes, we get very short notices for activities
so we need a quick response (turn around time). We look forward to seeing you around in the Summer!

Lastly, the schedules for Summer and Fall are already out and on the "search online" feature from the home page. Drop by to meet with the
Counselors in the ITEC START Center (Room 109). Yes, we are open in the Summer so stop by and see the Counselors to discuss your educational plans.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Check the calendar at the bottom of the email for other upcoming events.

Women in Technology (WIT) and Society of Women Engineers (SWE),
Reminder, there will be no meeting this Wednesday, Oct 14 so we can all participate in the ICC Blood Drive as volunteers. If you know anyone who is willing to give blood,
please have them sign up for a time slot. (less wait time) but walk-ins are always welcome. As volunteers we get "points" for the clubs - and points will help us to request funds,
fundraise, and recruit new members. Help out the clubs and we look forward to seeing you all over there at the Student Activity Center - volunteering or giving blood "Saves Lives" (your choice!).

Thank you to all who participated in the tours Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for their "Open House" in Pasadena this last weekend. we had a great time seeing all the displays,
demonstrations, and robots. Many people used the new "Open House Web App" for real-time advice and to check on the lines and wait times. We particularly liked
Station 21 "Microdevices Laboratory" especially where we took pictures with infrared cameras for photos which you could keep , plus nanotechnology.
Station 20 "Solar System Exploration" was a favorite where there were displays of spacecraft models and a chance to speak with the engineers, and participate in the virtual online
experience using 3-D glasses. Always special hits were the Station 7 "Von Karman Vistor Center" - where we viewed exhibits about JPL missions
to the various planets and Station 6 "Mars Exploration" in the Mall Area - viewing the rovers and orbiters currently on and projects heading towards Mars.
Come on the following Wednesday and bring your pictures so we can show them to the others.

We still want to advertise ITEC START Center (Student, Technology, Achievement, Resources, and Training Center).
As you know we have different programs now in the center such as Project Lead the Way (PLTW), CTE (Career & Technical Education), STEM START, WIT, SWE
as well as Counseling. Please spread the word that we now have academic counseling available in the ITEC START Center from Monday - Thursday
basically 8:00 - 7 pm. Drop by, meet our counselors, and have your academic, career, and transfer questions answered.
They specialize in Industry & Technology majors - so they are here to help you!

We look forward to seeing you here at the ITEC START Center and at the WIT Wednesdays!
