Ten of our schools have earned statewide recognition for their outstanding work in implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) during the past school year!

Presented by the California PBIS Coalition, these awards acknowledge schools that implement the PBIS framework with fidelity, creating safe, supportive, and positive campus cultures where students thrive academically and socially. Achieving this recognition requires rigorous self-assessments, data verification, external site visits, and comprehensive mental health support planning.

Our 2026 PBIS Award winners are:✨

Platinum: Carr Elementary (Torrance Unified's first-ever Platinum recipient!)

Gold: Casimir Middle, Hull Middle, Jefferson Middle, Lincoln Elementary, Richardson Middle, Torrance Elementary, and Wood Elementary

For the past four years, 20 of our elementary and middle schools have been honored through this program. The application window for the South Bay Consortium Teacher Residency Program is officially closing on September 18!

Through this unique partnership between Torrance, Lawndale, and Wiseburn Unified School Districts, you can earn your Master’s degree and teaching credential in just one year while gaining hands-on classroom experience with a mentor teacher.

Program Highlights:

Financial Support: Receive a $40,000 residency stipend, a 20% National University tuition discount, and access to additional grants/scholarships.

Credentials Offered: Programs available in Dual Immersion Bilingual Spanish (K-8), Special Education, and Single Subject Math or Science.

Career Path: Benefit from priority hiring for a full-time position upon completion.

Yesterday, our staff team opened doors across our district to welcome back our incredible students. From high-energy welcome tunnels to joyful reunions with friends and teachers, each school celebrated the first day of school in its own special way!

At every school, families experienced enthusiasm, smiles, and a sense of community. A huge thank you to our parents, educators, administrators, and support teams who helped make the first day smooth, safe, and memorable for everyone.

We're ready for an extraordinary year and excited to see all that our students will accomplish! ✨

As we continue celebrating the incredible staff getting us ready for the first day of school, today we want to spotlight our extraordinary Maintenance & Operations (M&O) team!

Our M&O crew spent the summer transforming our schools to ensure every campus is safe, welcoming, and inspiring for students and staff. From completing major facility upgrades to adding creative finishing touches, their hard work can be seen all across our district:

Campus Transformations: Completed our district-wide painting project, which means every school in Torrance Unified has been freshly painted over the last four years!

Upgrades: Replaced roofs, pavers, and asphalt district-wide.

Safety & Modernization: Installed new cameras on all district buses for student safety and built new outdoor shaded classrooms

Beautification: Completed beautiful new murals and collaborated on volunteer Scout projects to bring color and school spirit to life.

Whether they were high up on roofs or putting the finishing touches on fresh paint, our M&O team brought their pride and dedication to every single project.

Special thanks to our M&O team for making our schools a fantastic place to learn and grow!

We can't wait to welcome our students back to these beautiful campuses tomorrow! 🎉

As we count down to the first day of the 2026–2027 school year on Thursday, August 20, we are taking time to highlight the incredible staff members working behind the scenes to make it all happen. Today, we send a massive thank you to our hardworking Enrollment Center team!

Preparing for a new school year is a year-round effort. Since February, our enrollment team has been busy enrolling our youngest learners in TK and Kindergarten, welcoming new families to the Torrance community, and processing incoming interdistrict permits.

Over the past month, their focus has been on the finish line: verifying documentation, answering family questions, and ensuring every new student is registered, supported, and ready to thrive on day one.

Because of their care and dedication, hundreds of new students and families are officially ready for a smooth, successful start in our district. 💛💙

Teamwork, innovation, and bold ideas! 💡 This week, our district's Future Entrepreneurs Internship kicked off for the second year, launching students into the world of business.

20 rising seniors from North, South, Torrance, and West High Schools joined together to develop and present original business ideas. Throughout the first week of our four-week program, these student-innovators explored business organization, personal branding, and the entrepreneurial mindset while mastering the art of the elevator pitch.

As always, a huge thanks to our incredible guest speakers, program teachers, business partners, and engaged families who inspire and support the next generation of changemakers!

The competition was fierce, and the school spirit was even stronger at this year’s Elementary Track Meet.

Students from all 17 elementary schools came together at West High School to compete in events like relays, hurdles, long jump, ball throw, and more. After weeks of school-site field days and qualifying events, our student-athletes brought their energy, determination, and teamwork to the track.

Balloons popped, bots battled, and the crowd cheered during this year’s Combat Bots Competition as students put their engineering skills to the test in one of the most exciting STEM events of the year!
