Laura Proctor Music Studio Voice and piano lessons now available weekday afternoons and evenings. All ages, abilities, and styles welcome! What's my teaching style?

For over twelve years, I have taught music both privately and in classroom settings. Now I am delighted to be offering piano and voice lessons conveniently located at the Trinity Church in Topsfield. I strive to be an encouraging, thoughtful and responsive teacher. I come to each lesson with possibilities in my head based on what I know about my students, and I really take care to be a good listen

er to assess how they are doing and what they need to improve. I maintain organization, focus and clarity and encourage students to do the same. My approach is always a little different based on the student, since different personalities and skill sets pose different needs. This is where being a thoughtful listener is key. My goal is to be clear and helpful with my students and to empower them to teach themselves. It's important for learning to be smooth and continuous, so I pay attention to my students and do what is needed to help them challenge themselves, engage fully, and have fun. Music is one of the greatest gifts, and with great joy and care, I aim to help students find the music inside themselves and bring it out!

Here's another of my church videos. This composition was such an interesting experience for me; the music came instantly (more instantly than usual) and I barely remembered it when I was done! This is one of the lovely surprises in composition and improvisation. I hope you musicians out there are also having lots of fun composing and improvising!

Hi music friends! As I mentioned, I'm recording YouTube music for my church, and I'm sharing the links here. Feel free to check out previous links, plus the new ones I added this week.

One interesting point for the curious ear: I bought my piano before the lock-down, and it is not in tune! Rather than despairing, it's fun to notice how tuning affects the sound quality. Handel's "How beautiful are the feet" is a great example, and it reminds us that we don't often perform Baroque music in its intended tuning. Everything I play on my piano is not in its intended tuning, and I see it as a way to explore new sounds. I hope you enjoy!
