‘Kids are going to get killed’: Stalled trains cause problems near Wichita school

kansas.com Wichita students crossed under or between the boxcars of a stalled train blocking intersections near Hamilton Middle School on Tuesday to get home from school. Officials are warning children about the dangers.

KS OL, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Shawnee County Sheriff's Office is out at Gage Park in Topeka, KS hosting a community event and free train ride for #RailSafetyWeek2018. Come out and see us!

Kansas OL Positive Enforcement in Valley Center, KS at the 5th Street BNSF crossing. Valley Center Police Sgt. Matt Vogt and Officers Eric Leeker and Jerry Ezell handed out safety handouts and Sonic Coupons to pedestrians and drivers. The KSOL crash car was also on display. Later on, the crash car was displayed at the Valley Center Lion's Club Car Show.

Rail Safety Week! Kansas Operation Lifesaver along with Watco Companies' Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad and Great Bend Police Dept. conducted an Officer on the Train enforcement in Great Bend, Kansas. Four crossing citations were written. There were 10 pedestrians contacted. Four of those were educated on trespassing and six were contacted as part of the Positive Enforcement campaign with Sonic drink coupons. Event was organized by K&O Trainmaster / KSOL Board member Chadd Thimesch and Kansas OL President Sgt. Matt Vogt of Valley Center Police. Great Bend PD officers participating were Lt. Jason Settle, Sgt. Bill Paden, Officer Joshua Suss and Officer Joel Hamlin. K&O employees were Engineer Ryan Girard, Engineer Luke Lohrmeyer, Conductor Evan Edward, and Trainmaster Travis Schnelle. Video gives you the view that the train crews have while they travel the rails.
