🥹❤️ SENIOR SUNDAY 2027 | MY PELPY ❤️

My very first Senior Sunday of the 2027 season goes to MY PELPY — as little 2-year-old Aubs used to call her! 🥹❤️

Jessica “Pelkey” has been part of our dance family since her little-girl days at The Dance Spot, and after over a DECADE of memories, there’s no way I could fit our story into one post! So get ready for LOTS of senior throwbacks this year! 😭❤️

Today is extra special because chose to honor her love of dance by recreating her very first duet as the BIG dancer, this time with as her little! 🥹

And the story behind these two? MY HEART! ❤️

I’ll never forget a rehearsal in Alma when 10-ish-year-old Pelkey was trying to find the perfect spot to watch the older girls dance, while little preschooler Aleyx followed her EVERYWHERE, mimicking her every move! 😂❤️

When Jess finally noticed her tiny shadow, she didn’t get annoyed. She scooped little Aleyx up and put her right in her lap so she could watch the big girls dance. 🥹😭

And NOW… that once-little dancer is the BIG, sharing the stage with the little girl who once looked up to her so much. 😭❤️

Today I sit in the lobby, tears streaming down my face, listening to Pelkey’s original duet music and watching this beautiful full-circle moment unfold.

THIS is why I love what I do! ❤️ It’s not just about trophies and titles. It’s about the friendships, the memories, and watching these kids grow up through dance.

I’m so thankful I’ve captured so many of these moments in my heart AND my vlogs. 🎥❤️

My Pelpy, I’m not sure my heart is ready for your senior year, but I cannot wait to celebrate YOU! 🥹❤️

🚨 DANCE PARENTS, LET’S TALK! ⬆️

Is your studio prioritizing YOUR family’s budget—or chasing clout, bragging rights, and the fear of losing to a local studio?

In today’s expensive climate, no family should feel pressured into debt just to attend a competition labeled “bigger” or “better.” 💸

After decades in this industry, here’s my truth: THE BEST COMPETITION IS THE ONE YOUR DANCER HAS WITH THEMSELVES. 🪞🔥

Not every dancer will win every solo, duet, trio, or group—and that’s OKAY! Celebrate other studios, applaud great performances, and treat competition as an opportunity to grow, NOT a reason to tear others down.

Regional competitions, local events, conventions, and one-day workshops can provide incredible training, exposure, and recognition without breaking the bank.

🛑 Studio owners: Put your families’ budgets ahead of your egos. You can deliver outstanding dance education without chasing every expensive event on the circuit.

Let’s keep kids dancing, families financially healthy, and the focus where it belongs: TRAINING, GROWTH & THE LOVE OF DANCE! ❤️‍🔥

HOT TOPIC ❤️ Foundation building as a dancer definitely matters to building stronger athletes and yes DANCERS are athletes- not only do they need to know the knowledge of proper dance terminology and technical steps they MUST FOLLOW A STRONG REGIME

⭐️At any and all ages⭐️

Do:
❤️INVEST IN AS MANY CORE BUILDING COURSES AS YOU CAN - not just a ballet or tap or a tumbling class …. THERE IS A DEEPER LAYER TO QUALITY VS QUANTITY - Core classes such as a back flexibility course will get your dancer faster and farther than just a walkover clinic, private or camp - want higher jumps and leaps - FEET 👣 structure and muscle development is the key 🔑 that most dancers forget that create that power your body lacks. Turns need more than just Rotation knowledge there needs to be focused building in core strength and leg balance.

💔DONT:
Waste your time or money taking FUNZY run around classes that get you no where but in the back, not on the high school or college teams and definitely not standing in the overall advanced level lineups or scholarships. STOP 🛑 making excuses because you’re efforts are mediocre or simply just to make friends. DANCE is way to expensive of an activity to spend time playing around when a dancers time of growth and development is limited. Let’s stop being afraid to put the PUSH in the performance and the POWER to activate the type of work it takes to truly become an athlete. Not just a dancer but a force that’s ready to take on any style in any challenge in any room and bring their best game to the table.
