STOP means STOP. πŸ›‘

See a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended? Don't pass.

Kansas law requires drivers approaching or overtaking a stopped school bus displaying its flashing red lights to stop and remain stopped until the bus resumes motion or the signals are no longer activated.

🟑 Yellow means slow down. πŸ”΄ Red means STOP.

When a school bus activates its yellow flashing lights, it's preparing to stop. Slow down and be ready to stop.

When the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, you must stop. Remain stopped until the bus resumes motion or the flashing red lights and stop arm are no longer activated.

Know the lights. Know when to stop.

School is starting this week, which means school buses are on the road. 🚌

When a school bus stops with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, STOP. Give students the time and space they need to get on or off the bus safely.

A few seconds of patience can help protect a child.

Protect students and stop for school buses so every trip to and from school is a safe one!

Governor Laura Kelly signed a proclamation designating August 2 through 8, 2026, as Kansas School Bus Stop Arm Week.

As students head back to school this month, be sure to watch for school buses and slowdown in school zones. Remember, in Kansas when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, drivers on the roadways must stop.

Let's work together to protect students, school bus drivers, and the traveling public on Kansas roadways by remembering to Just Stop.
