KSHSAA Covered Week 6 Game of the Week presented by MMTH

Dighton (4-1) at Wallace County (4-0)

Dighton and Wallace County have yet to surrender a point in district play. Now the Hornets and Wildcats will put their defenses to the test against each other with a chance to gain an edge in the Eight-Player Division II District 8 title race.

After a Week 1 bye, Wallace County made a strong opening statement with a 38-22 win over Hill City. The Wildcats have followed with lopsided wins over Rawlins County (58-8), St. Francis (50-0) and Greeley County (64-0).

Dighton received an early boost by upsetting Oberlin-Decatur 30-20 in its opener. The Hornets picked up a forfeit win over Sublette in Week 2 before falling 64-44 to perennial power Wichita County. They rebounded with a 34-0 win over Greeley County and are coming off a 50-0 victory over Ness City.

Dighton junior quarterback Rangler Price has completed 64 of 101 passes for 729 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions. He has added 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Charlie Vogel leads the Hornets with 239 receiving yards on 19 catches and two touchdowns. Shawn Redburn has 15 catches for 159 yards and three touchdowns to go with 115 rushing yards and three scores.

Connor Wilson leads Dighton with 37 tackles. Vogel has recorded 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, while Cordell Davis has five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Wallace County returned most of its core from last year’s 9-1 team. Quarterback Gage Cox has thrown for 327 yards and four touchdowns while leading the Wildcats with 465 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Trell Larson has added 195 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Braylon Rains has contributed 166 yards and two scores. Jensen Vandike leads the receiving corps with eight catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Rains and Cox have combined for 83 tackles, while Larson has intercepted four passes.
