Last week during commencement, we were proud to award Carol S. Perry with an honorary Doctorate Degree of Public Service for her years of dedication to our community. Perry, bsn '83, devoted 40 years of service in nursing to Stormont Vail Health, where she worked as a student nurse technician, registered nurse, unit director, director of maternal/child services, director of case management, performance improvement, and the hospitalist program, and ultimately served as senior vice president and chief nursing officer for acute care operations.
Under her leadership, Stormont Vail achieved Magnet designation four times, a reflection of sustained excellence in nursing practice and patient outcomes. Perry retired from Stormont Vail in 2024.
Perry has also remained deeply connected to Washburn, serving as a capstone preceptor, mentor, guest lecturer and advocate for expanded clinical opportunities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked with Washburn and Baker University leaders to help nursing students complete their capstone experiences, graduate on time and enter the workforce when they were urgently needed.
Her service has extended to numerous health care, workforce, and nursing organizations, and her honors include recognition as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Washburn School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Fellow, and induction into the Kansas State Nurses Association Hall of Fame.
Through visionary leadership, steadfast support for students and an unwavering commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care, Perry has left a lasting legacy in Kansas health care and nursing education.
Congratulations! π©΅πππ©Ί
