Thank you to everyone for following our car line procedures for pick up and drop off. It went so well! Please know that tomorrow, we are dropping students off at the front doors and they will walk to class without parents.

Last, but not least, meet our new 4th grade teacher Mrs. Brown!

My name is Brittany Brown. This is my 8th year as an educator, but it is my first year with the USD 501 district where I will be teaching 4th grade. I have three children of my own and recently moved to Topeka. I love spending time with my husband, friends, and family. We spend lots of time outdoors, and reading. I am thrilled to start this new adventure with an amazing team of educators, students, and their families. Some of my favorite things are; Mexican and Thai food, zero sugar Dr. Pepper, Reese's cups, the colors purple and green, Chiefs, KU Jayhawks, the Royals, Halloween, and I love shopping at HomeGoods. 🙂 Here's to a fabulous year!

Let’s welcome our new social worker, Ms. Hinck!

Hello everyone!

My name is Kate Hinck and I am so excited to be McCarter’s new school social worker! I graduated with my undergrad in Social Work from Kansas State University in fall of 2023 and received my Masters of Social Work (with a school social work concentration) from Washburn in spring of 2025.

I grew up with foster and adoptive siblings in my house so I have seen the behind the scenes impact that trauma and mental health issues can have on children and families. I am very passionate about helping students feel safe and seen at school, all while holding them to high expectations to become what I know they’re capable of. I love building relationships and helping students use their interests to meet their goals. I have recently moved back to my hometown of Topeka and this will be my second year as a school social worker. I am so looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Our next new Mustang we’d like to introduce is Mrs. Hooper in first grade!

Hi! My name is Darcey Hooper. I recently moved to Topeka but I am not new to education. I have spent the last 29 years in education and first grade is my favorite grade. I moved to Topeka to be near my two grandchildren and my family. I have three adult children and love my new role as Nana. I am looking forward to meeting all the McCarter families and staff. I went to Pittsburg State University for both my undergraduate and master's degree. I just finished the Seal of Literacy and teaching reading is my passion. I feel I am easy going, outgoing and a natural conversationalist. My own grade school grade card says talks too much! Please come by and visit, I would love to talk to you 💜

Starting off our new staff introductions with Mrs. McGreevy, our new school counselor!

My name is Corrinne McGreevy. I have 5 kids and in my free time I love to watch them play sports, be with my family, listen to music, and jump rope. I got my Master’s degree from Fort Hays State University and before that I played college volleyball at KU, Pittsburgh State, and then finished my playing career at Washburn University. I am now the head volleyball coach for Hayden High School where I was a counselor for 3 years. I am so excited to be a school counselor at McCarter Elementary now! Go Mustangs!
