Recently Top Aviation Services acquired a 1940 Navy N3N-3 bi-plane.

The N3N is a unique aircraft as it was built by the United States Naval Aircraft Factory (NAF) at the Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, not by a civilian company. Roughly 1,000 were made with a 25 estimated still in flying condition. The aircraft was designed to be on floats as a seaplane and as a cadet trainer.

Our N3N will be available for viewing this weekend at our first annual “Radials on the Ramp”, co-sponsored by Gate 36 Eatery & Spirits By J. Engroff. Come sit in the N3N, hear it start up, smell it, and see how to get a ride in this wonderful rare warbird.

There will also be a variety of radial engine and vintage aircraft on static display.

See and hear vintage, radial engines, and aviation on the ramp! Rumor on the field is that there is also a new golf putting green too.

This morning around 10 AM, our GM Justin will be competing in the National STOL Series in a J3 Cub.

You can watch the live stream at our flight school on Philip Billard Airport-Topeka.

The STOL or Short Takeoff and Landing competition is intended to simulate gravel bar/sand bar takeoff and landings in the shortest distance possible. Justin is competing in the “Vintage Cub” class - a class intended for aircraft under 100HP with no flaps. A true class of aircraft handling and energy management.

July 26-4 August, we will be hosting a CFI-S course with an onsite DPE (SPFIE).

🚨 Tonight (May 8th) at 6PM, Top Aviation will be hosting a 1 hour presentation on tailwheel flying, intro to off airport (gravel bar, river beds, field landings), and light weight off airport camping gear.
