The heat is on! 🔥
🥵🌞 The Dog Days of Summer Have Arrived! 🌞🥵
The US National Weather Service Topeka forecasts hot and humid conditions throughout the week, with heat index values between 100°–110°F each afternoon. Be sure to keep heat safety top of mind! ☀️
Here are a few simple ways to stay safe in the heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water—don't wait until you're thirsty.
🏠 Stay indoors in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
👒 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.
⏰ Limit outdoor activities to the early morning or evening hours.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—temperatures inside can become deadly within minutes. Look before you lock.
👵👴 Check on older adults, neighbors, and those without air conditioning.
🐾 Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade.
🚨 Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and call 911 immediately if someone is showing signs of heat stroke.
Let's work together to stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe during this stretch of dangerous heat! ☀️💙
