Do you know a USU Tooele student who enjoys helping others and wants to make a difference on campus? We'd love to have them join our Peer Mentor Team!
Peer Mentors play an important role in welcoming new Aggies, connecting first-year students with campus resources, and helping them succeed both academically and personally. It's a rewarding opportunity to develop leadership skills, build lasting friendships, and make a meaningful impact on the USU Tooele community.

Position Highlights
💰 $13/hour
⏰ Part-time (up to 19 hours per week)
📅 August 31, 2026 – May 4, 2027
📍 On-campus at USU Tooele
💵 Federal Work-Study students are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should:
✔️ Be currently enrolled in USU Tooele classes
✔️ Maintain a 2.7 GPA or higher
✔️ Enjoy working with and supporting fellow students
✔️ Be dependable, organized, and be strong communicators

Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one semester at USU Tooele and have mentoring, leadership, or customer service experience.

What a fun week it's been at USU Tooele! We celebrated Independence Day with festive potlucks, patriotic outfits, creative crafts, and plenty of red, white, and blue spirit. 🎉

Some people leave a job. Others leave a legacy.

Today, the USU Tooele family celebrates the retirement of Raini Heap, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Social Work Department, as she begins an exciting new chapter.

For years, Raini has been the heart of our Social Work program. She has inspired students to become compassionate professionals, challenged them to think critically, and reminded them that real change begins with caring for others. Her office door was always open, her encouragement was always genuine, and her belief in her students helped them discover their own potential.

Beyond the classroom, Raini has been a trusted colleague, mentor, and friend. She has strengthened our campus with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to serving both students and the Tooele community. The lives she has influenced extend far beyond graduation, reaching families, organizations, and communities across Utah through the work of the social workers she helped shape.

While we will deeply miss seeing her smile in the halls and hearing her words of encouragement, we are incredibly grateful for the lasting impact she has made on our campus and in our community.

Raini, thank you for your years of service, your passion for social work, and the countless lives you've touched along the way. Your legacy will continue to inspire future Aggies for years to come.

🏆 BIG NEWS! 🏆

Tooele County, help us celebrate an incredible achievement by one of our own!

Please join us in congratulating Melaine Webster, Utah State University Master of Social Work (MSW) student, Community Justice Advocate, and Transforming Communities Institute (TCI) intern, for taking FIRST PLACE in The Policy Project's Policy Pitch Competition! 🎉👏

Out of 115 submissions from across the state, Melaine's innovative policy proposal rose to the top, earning her the $10,000 grand prize.

Melaine's winning proposal focuses on creating a smarter, fairer, and fiscally responsible approach to Utah's criminal debt system—supporting successful reentry while maintaining realistic accountability for individuals rebuilding their lives after involvement with the justice system.

This is macro social work in action, and we couldn't be more proud to see one of our students leading meaningful change that will positively impact communities across Utah.

📢 Campus Closure Notice – Juneteenth Observance

In observance of Juneteenth, Utah State University will observe the holiday on Monday, June 15.

✅ No classes will be held
✅ Campus offices will be closed

The campus will be closed on Monday only and will resume normal operations on Tuesday.
We wish everyone a meaningful Juneteenth as we commemorate and reflect on this important day in American history.

Huge congratulations to one of our incredible Tooele MSW students, Melaine Webster, for being selected as one of just THREE finalists in the Utah Policy Project’s policy proposal contest! 🎉

Community leaders from across the state submitted policy pitches for consideration, with the winning proposal becoming a legislative priority during the next session — along with a $10,000 cash award.

This is macro social work at its finest: advocacy, leadership, policy, and real-world impact. We are so proud of Melaine and the important work she is doing to help create meaningful change in Utah communities! 👏
