Monday Memory
High walled, heavy-duty wooden freight wagons were used to haul ore from different mines around the county. Steam tractors were used to bridge the transportation gap by hauling silver, lead, and zinc ores before the dedicated railroad branch lines were built in locations like Ophir and St. John.
Visitors to the Tooele Valley Museum and Historical park can see an original ore cart on the park grounds.

The Goose Is Still on the Loose! Join in on the Celebration!

Fun Historical Fact:

As we were researching World War II veterans from Tooele County, we discovered the stories of three women who served with the Army Nurse Corps and Red Cross. After gathering stories from the newspapers and other historical websites, we created storyboards about their experiences during the war, and now they are on display.

Come and learn more about these women and other local veterans by visiting our our military car displays!

Our final lesson for the summer season was on Graffiti. Participants learned the difference between street art and graffiti. They painted their own artwork with graffiti letters.

Engine 11 at Tooele Valley Museum – 35 North Broadway

Tooele Valley Railroad Engine 11 ran down the middle of Vine Street carrying people and ore on 6.235 miles of line from the International Smelting and Refining Company’s copper smelter from 1912-1963. The rail lines were eventually removed from Vine Street in the 1980’s. Engine 11 is still on display at the Tooele Valley Museum. Listed on the State Historical Register, the museum is housed in the former Tooele Valley Railway Station and features a fascinating display of artifacts that tell the story of the immigrants and migrants from a variety of backgrounds that came together to create a community.

Blast off...Water Bottle Rockets are at the museum.

This lesson gave information on how water was used in trains, mining, and smelting. Our favorite part of the lesson is the practical application of water.
