Just because she gave me life doesn’t mean she gets to steal it. My mother—narcissistic, emotionally stunted, selfish to the marrow—never earned the title “Mom.” She weaponized it instead, turning every hug into a hook, every word into a wound. I spent years mourning a ghost while she stood in the doorway, demanding applause for the crime of my existence.
Let that grief burn. Let it forge you.
Here is the truth I now wield like a blade:
HER EMPTINESS IS NOT MY INHERITANCE!
I am not the echo of her chaos; I am the architect of my own empire. Only I decide what kind of empire I build. Is it one of fine architecture? Or is it slapped together with layer upon layer of welcomed hurt, heartache and failed attempts?
Every boundary I draw is a brick in a fortress she can’t breach. Every “NO” I speak is a coronation. I rise—not in spite of her, but because I intentionally refuse to let her define me.
To every daughter staring at the same cracked mirror:
*You are not broken for walking away.
*You are not cruel for choosing yourself.
*You are in no way obligated to light yourself on fire to keep her warm.
Your wholeness is holy. GUARD IT, like it is the most prized jewel it is. Grow it. Gift it to the world.
One day, you’ll look back and see the scars as constellations—proof that you survived the storm and became the sky.
You are the legacy she never built.
Now YOU go build it. Unapologetically. Forgive her for YOUR own sake. And when you think you've forgiven her enough, forgive her again, because YOUR wholeness depends upon it!
