"Fortunately for us all, the human organism is reinforced just for being successful with something" (B.F. Skinner, "On Education - Part 1"). Skinner goes on to say that if learning materials/environment are set up the right way, then "mere progress is reinforcing". (Link to video below.)
I don't remember how I found this but it is such a gem and educators should be paying attention to this - as relevant today as it was when he spoke about it in 1972!!
