Happy 4th of July friends!

Parents often ask their children “ what did you do/learn at school today?” The question is often answered with “I don’t know” or “ I played today”.

As children play, they learn. This is an example of learning through play. As the children were playing in the sandbox today, they found some rocks and wanted to explore the items they found. So I provided a little water table for them to wash their treasures. As they were collecting the items they found with dirt , water and brushes, they were amazed to find how these items change when manipulated with different elements.

This is what your child is learning today and everyday in preschool! They are learning how to hypothesize, and use trial and error. They are learning how to think outside the box and follow their ideas through. They are learning new language, new ideas that they will build on tomorrow. They are leaning how to work together, and take turns which requires them to communicate effectively and to learn how to wait patiently. They are learning how to use ordinary everyday objects for creative purposes. Each one of their experiences forms new pathways in the brain which in turn equals…..learning!

These are things that are only learned by playing, exploring and doing. Learning is not always done at a desk, with a book and a worksheet!
