Texas DOES have a pretty cool geologic history!! BTW the ash from Pilot K**b eruptions is visible below the lower fall at McKinley Falls State Park.

Thank you to Geomorphology Rules for sharing this delightful reminder sent by one of their followers 💜 I have to check mine regularly to prevent my truck filling with rocks 🤣

Whenever people are involved, biases slip in. They are not always noticed so we must constantly check our biases and kick them to the curb repeatedly! When you do research and decide what articles to read, make sure to are broadening your search beyond a few well-cited (typically white) men. Their works is important;but, they are the only ones who do important work.

Women researchers are cited less than men. Here’s why—and what can be done about it

The Devonian Mass Extinction story is my favorite of the five we have identified throughout the last 541 million years.

The layers of the earth are a foundational principle in geology. Did you know that geology textbooks in the early 20th century had only one layer? The outside layer, the lithosphere (crust + uppermost mantle), was labeled and the rest was labeled “unknown interior”!

"Fig. 1. Block diagram of continental lithosphere with approximate isotherm contours and major rheological boundaries. Faults shown are (1) primary strike-parallel translithospheric fault along a lithospheric domain boundary, (2) secondary transverse strike-slip translithospheric fault, (3) listric transcrustal fault, and (4) intracrustal fault."
