Whenever people are involved, biases slip in. They are not always noticed so we must constantly check our biases and kick them to the curb repeatedly! When you do research and decide what articles to read, make sure to are broadening your search beyond a few well-cited (typically white) men. Their works is important;but, they are the only ones who do important work.

The layers of the earth are a foundational principle in geology. Did you know that geology textbooks in the early 20th century had only one layer? The outside layer, the lithosphere (crust + uppermost mantle), was labeled and the rest was labeled “unknown interior”!
