It’s time for the 8th grade “legacy project” reveal! 8th graders learned all about local artist Chris Rodriguez aka “Chilly” Rodriguez, co-owner of Mind And Soul Gallery & Studios. Mrs. Webley guided them to write formal business letters, asking him to come and paint a mural with them. Then they drew out some ideas in art class that Chilly used to sketch out on our shed. Today they took turns painting and spray painting, and now our shed that faces the shared driveway has a fresh new face! Thank you to Chilly, staff, and students for making McKinley even more beautiful than it already is!

Our 7th grade students proudly shared their Watershed Watch research project at the GLOBE Student Research Symposium at The Toledo Zoo on Wednesday! 🌎💧
This year, our students charted new territory and opened new doors for research in the Watershed Watch program by conducting water testing at The Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Recognized as one of the only urban migratory bird stops and one of the most diverse urban birding locations in the country, Woodlawn has a freshwater source that has never previously been tested as part of the Watershed Watch program. Our students collected the very first baseline data for the site!
Students did an outstanding job presenting their findings and research to an engaged audience of educators, scientists, and environmental professionals. We are so proud of the hard work, scientific thinking, and confidence they demonstrated while contributing meaningful data to an important ecological location right here in Toledo.
We are so proud of our student scientists!

Our students were shining stars yesterday at the GLOBE Student Research Symposium at The Toledo Zoo! 🌎✨
This incredible showcase of learning highlighted the research projects our students have been working on all year as they presented their findings to zoo educators, science educators, and scientists. The feedback our students received was outstanding!🌟 Reviewers especially appreciated the interactive nature of the projects, as well as the strong activism component woven throughout the work.
Our students took their learning a step further by advocating for the protection of local ecological systems, including writing letters to local authorities explaining the importance of saving and protecting prairies. 🌱
The artistic elements included in every project truly highlighted why we earned the “A” in our STEAM designation. From student photography captured during BioBlitz experiences to hand-painted pillows representing living organisms found in our prairie ecosystem, students creatively designed an interactive modified food web that beautifully blended science, art, and innovation together.
After their presentations, students enjoyed a fun afternoon exploring the zoo and seeing all of the animals out enjoying the beautiful spring weather!
We are incredibly proud of our students and the exceptional job they did presenting their research projects. Their creativity, passion, and dedication were on full display, and they represented McKinley STEAM Academy so well!🧡

What an incredible evening at our Annual STEAM Expo!
We were thrilled to celebrate our new ODEW STEAM designation with our students, families, staff, district leaders, partners, and community. Close to 300 people joined us last night to experience the amazing, creative, and integrated projects our students worked so hard to create. Their innovation, collaboration, and excitement were truly inspiring!
A huge THANK YOU to all of our partners and sponsors who spent the evening with us. Your partnership, support, and commitment to our students mean so much, and we are incredibly grateful for all you do to help make opportunities like this possible.
A special thank you also to the students at Toledo Technology Academy of Engineering and Toledo Pre-Med and Health Science Academy for volunteering their time to run the Imagination Station tables in the gym. As always they were a great group of volunteers and they had so much fun interacting with our students and families.
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate, support, and make the night such a success. We are so proud of our McKinley STEAM Academy students and all they accomplished this year!
