University of Toledo SCOPE Program The SCOPE Program at the University of Toledo grants remote access to scientific instruments for free.

The SCOPE (Scientists Changing Our Pre-college Education) Program was founded in 2010 by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Toledo. This program utilizes a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and a Confocal Light Microscope. The SEM is located in the Instrumentation Center and the Confocal Light Microscope is located in the Avidor-Reiss Biology laboratory. Since bo

th microscopes use desktop computers as the interface, the microscopes can be connected to via the internet. One person of our team stays on the UT campus to load samples and another travels to the participating school to lead the session. Each session lasts one class period and is tailored to each class. The program promotes an interest in STEM academics and introduces students to sophisticated instrumentation without them ever having to leave the classroom. Best of all, the program is 100% free to any school wishing to participate!

🔬 Parents: Give your high school student a chance to experience science like real researchers do!

Is your student interested in learning about medicine, forensic science, chemistry, engineering, biology or environmental research?

At UToledo's FREE 1-Day Scientific Instrumentation Camp, students entering grades 10–12 will work alongside UToledo scientists and gain hands-on experience using sophisticated instruments—including technologies developed through Nobel Prize-winning research—that are used in hospitals, crime labs, research facilities and industry.
