The cold reality is that motorcyclists are 30 times more likely to die in a crash than people in a car, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). And nearly half of all motorcycle deaths are the result of single-vehicle crashes.

The “Lay ‘Er Down” Myth - Speed and Engines 08/13/2016

Not sure I agree with all of this article, but the point here is to learn how to ride and THAT INCLUDES learning how to brake and turn properly. Learning the basics of riding will not protect you in an emergency, only practice will.
Almost every time I'm out riding I stop at a large parking lot and take a few minutes to practice braking and tight turns.
