Sanskar Lamsal came to UToledo from Kathmandu, Nepal to study Computer Science and Engineering. When he lost his job due to COVID-19, he needed assistance with his rent, utilities and groceries. Sanskar is one of nearly 200 students who has received aid from the Rocket to Rocket Fund – a fund that provides financial assistance to UToledo students when they need it most.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to those who have chosen to make generosity a priority in this time of need. We are especially grateful for our most recent gift from The PWC Charitable Foundation, a gift that will provide emergency aid to at least 25 students like Sanskar.

The Annual Giving team at The University of Toledo Foundation, in partnership with the UToledo Division of Student Affairs, is hosting an online giving campaign, the COVID-19 Student Emergency Support Crowdfunding Campaign.
Donations made to the Rocket to Rocket Fund will provide needed emergency funds for students who have lost on-campus jobs or who cannot return to their native countries. Money raised through this crowdfunding campaign will help students pay rent, medical bills and for car repairs, food and toiletries. Please help support UToledo students who are facing financial hardships during this historical crisis.
Visit https://www.givecampus.com/schools/UniversityofToledo/covid-19-student-emergency-support to make a donation in any amount. The goal is to raise $10,000 in 100 days. Please help us reach that goal.

Jin Chen, a PhD student in the Medical Microbiology and Immunology track, was featured in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences Dean’s Update on Dec. 3 to acknowledge her column that was published in the Toledo newspaper, The Blade, “UT researchers aim for cure to genetic cell destruction.”
Dr. Peter White, Professor Emeritus of Medicine, who read about Chen’s research in The Blade, was excited to learn that she is working on research similar to what he had worked on 60 years ago. White was so moved by Chen’s work that he donated $6,000 toward her lab work and travel expenses to attend a research meeting where she will present her work.
Chen and her advisor, Dr. Viviana Ferreira, conveyed their sincere thanks and appreciation to White, who visited their laboratory in December. In this photo are, left to right, PhD candidate Smrithi Sugumaran Menon, MD and PhD candidate Sara Moore, Jin Chen, Dr. Peter White, Dr. Viviana Ferreira, and research assistant Sean Ehinger.

Scholarships do make a difference. Listen to this Presidential Scholarship recipient’s desires to become a physician assistant and work in emergency medicine. A recent scholarship she earned this past spring is making that goal possible for her.
