Congratulations to Scott's Richard Davis, Scott High School Track & Field Coach,
Named a 2026 Spring Sport Coach of the Year by the AEA
Institute
Recognized nationally for building a championship culture rooted in mental toughness, resilience,
and the development of student-athletes on and off the field.
Toledo, Ohio — July 22, 2026 — Toledo Public Schools is proud to announce that Richard Davis, who
has led the track & field program for 4 seasons, has been named a 2026 Spring Sport Coach of the Year
by the AEA Institute and its Mental Edge Academy program. The national recognition honors coaches
who build not only winning programs, but stronger, more resilient young people.
Under Coach Davis’s leadership, Toledo Public Schools’ track & field program has become a model of
consistency and culture. That kind of standard is not built on talent alone; it is built on a repeatable
process, and on standards that hold season after season.
Just as telling is how those results are made. Coach Davis makes mental toughness a daily priority,
challenging athletes to embrace accountability, strengthen their mindset, support one another, and prepare
for the adversity that comes with competing at an elite level. By training the mental side of performance,
the program prepares its athletes to perform when the stakes are highest — and to lead long after they
leave the field.
The recognition is part of a national initiative by the AEA Institute to identify coaches who are elevating
high school athletics — placing a stronger emphasis on leadership, mental performance, and long-term
athlete development.
“The best coaches train the mind the way the weight room trains the body,” said Eric Orme, Founder of
the AEA Institute. “Coaches like Davis create environments where athletes grow not only physically, but
mentally and personally — learning to move from reaction to intention. We are proud to recognize this
work nationally.”
The AEA Institute works with schools and athletic departments across the country to support the
development of mental performance systems designed to help athletes build confidence, focus, and
resilience — in sports and in life.
