The Greater Toledo International Youth Orchestra - off a successful summer performance tour of Brazil - are scheduling open auditions for new members on Sunday, August 23. And registration for returning members is now available. First rehearsal on Sunday, August 30.

The UToledo Department of Music welcomes our new Visiting Assistant Professor of Piano - Dr. Tiantian Liang! Dr. Liang will be teaching applied piano, class piano, and a variety of keyboard courses. She maintains a multifaceted career as a pianist, organist, harpsichordist, and teacher and brings with her an extensive background in performance and pedagogy. She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance with cognates in piano pedagogy and harpsichord performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Additionally, she holds a Performer Diploma at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Rice University, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Concordia College.

Wishing Al Taplin a wonderful retirement! Al has been a longtime instructor of French Horn with the UToledo Department of Music. He was also longtime member of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Numerous students have benefited and grown under his tutelage and guidance. While we will miss his presence, we wish him joy and happiness in his next chapter. 💙👏💛👏

Congratulations to Justin Klemm - recipient of the 2026-2027 Bernard Sanchez Memorial Scholarship!👏

The scholarship was established in memory of long-time UToledo Music Professor and Department Chair Bernie Sanchez. It is awarded annually, by faculty vote, to a student who has demonstrated outstanding performance during the academic year. Justin a Music Education major and was principal trumpet in Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and performed in Jazz Ensemble this past year. Congratulations Justin!!👏👏👏👏
