We had an exciting first day for our newest Vikings!

Our kindergarteners arrived ready for class. We are so excited to watch them grow, learn, and discover all that kindergarten has to offer!

🍪 A sweet surprise! 💛💙

State Rep. Michele Grim stopped by DeVeaux today to drop off some delicious cookies for our staff! We truly appreciate her taking the time to think of our educators and show her support for our school community.

🧪🔬 We saved Fred! 🪱🚨

What better way to kick off 7th & 8th Grade Science than with a little teamwork, problem-solving, and a LOT of creativity?!

This week at DeVeaux, our scientists took on the Save Fred Challenge! Fred loves sailing, but after a little boating mishap, he found himself stranded on top of his overturned boat (with his life preserver trapped underneath)! 🌊⛵

Our teams had to work together, communicate, think creatively, and persevere to rescue Fred using only the materials provided. Some teams found success quickly, while others had to rethink their strategies and try again- but every team was practicing the skills that real scientists and engineers use every day.

It was such a fun way to start building our science community and see our students in action! 💙💛

During their classes, seventh and eighth grade students worked together in groups, discussed strategies, reevaluated their approaches, and continued attempting to complete the challenge. Each time, they made it a little further as they identified patterns, learned from their mistakes, and developed new strategies to help their team become more successful. What a great thing it is to see problem-solving, team-work, and perseverance happen in real time! 🙌✖️➕🟰

💙💛We had a packed house!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Open House tonight! 💙💛 We hope you enjoyed a hot dog, chips, and a refreshing lemonade while you were here.

🌭 A special thank-you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped cook and make the evening possible!.

We loved seeing all of your happy faces as you met your teachers, explored your classrooms, made your mark on our new lending library, and dropped off your school supplies. ✏️ ✂️📒
