We are thrilled about our partnership with the Maurer Family Cancer Care Center that provides hands-on experience to our students. This rotation allows them to apply their didactic knowledge in patient care, treatment delivery and interdisciplinary collaboration within multiple radiation oncology facilities. 🚀
The Maurer Family Cancer Care Center is partnering with the University of Toledo to provide clinical rotations for students in the university’s Radiation Therapy undergraduate program.
The partnership began in January with our first student and beginning in the summer semester, the Cancer Center will host one student per day on select days each week.
The new program also creates future employment opportunities for radiation therapists at the Cancer Center.

Last week, The University of Toledo inaugurated the Northwest Ohio Cancer Research Institute on March 3 with a ceremony that included University administrators and institute members, in the Health Education Building on campus.
Among the program’s speakers was Dr. Jian-Ting Zhang, the director of the Northwest Ohio Cancer Research Institute, UToledo President, Dr. James Holloway, as well as recorded remarks from a broad range of elected officials including both Ohio U.S. Senators.
The Northwest Ohio Cancer Research Institute aims to advance the detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer by facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration among clinicians and researchers at UToledo as well as partners including ProMedica.
More than 60 experts have been identified for inaugural membership, including more than 50 UToledo faculty whose active cancer research is supported by nearly $13 million in grants from federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health.
Members will collaborate through working groups established to specialize in breast, pancreatic and prostate cancer. They will also benefit from shared resources including service cores designed to support high-impact cancer research and to translate laboratory discoveries into patient-centered care innovations.
