SJJ finished 4th overall out of 14 teams competing at the Oregon Clay Sectionals.

7 titans qualified for next weekend’s District tournament to be held at Perrysburg High School, including 1 alternate.

District Qualifiers for 2026 and Sectional Placement: Riley White 3rd at 106, Carson Stearn 4th at 132, Max Beck 2nd at 138, Boston Johnson 4th at 144, Max Hurlbert 2nd at 150, Salar Hashemian 4th at 215, and Kai Cogswell 4th at 285. Gavin DeGroff placed 5th, and is a District alternate.

The Young Titan wrestlers traveled to Galion High School on December 13. Six wrestlers earned podium finishes as the team accumulated 85.5 points, good for 10th place overall.
Senior Max Beck led the way, capturing a championship title with a perfect 3–0 record, including a finals victory over the No. 4-ranked wrestler in Division II.
Three freshmen also placed: Riley White finished third, while Caison Shiekh and Jacob Foti each earned fourth-place finishes. Senior Salar Hashemian battled through a tough bracket to place fourth, and sophomore Boston Johnson added a sixth-place finish.
Additional contributors included Ethan Grant (0–3), Jack Camacho (1–2) returning from a lengthy rehab, Martin Ku**er (1–2), Kevin Orlowski (0–2), Lucas Wagenhauser (0–2), Levi Hurlbert (1–3), Isaac Pabon (0–3), Kai Cogswell (1–2), Jarrelle Terrel (1–2), and Lucas Johnson (0–2).
The Titans are back in action on Thursday, December 18, when they travel to Delta for a dual meet against the Panthers.

Midwest Duals – 12/06/2025
Young Team Battles Hard, Beck Reaches Career Milestone

The young squad turned in a gritty effort at the Midwest Duals, finishing 2–3 against a strong field and showing steady progress as the season moves forward.

Team Results

Lost 35–40 to Wauseon

Won 67–16 over Liberty Benton

Lost 33–38 to Wapakoneta

Lost 20–54 to Delta

Won 41–36 over Eastwood

The team’s two convincing wins demonstrated their potential, while the close losses highlighted how competitive this group already is despite its youth.

Individual Highlights

A number of wrestlers delivered strong performances throughout the day:

Senior Max Beck (5–0) led the way and earned the 100th win of his career, a steady and well-earned milestone.

Ethan Grant (4–1) and Salar Hashemian (4–1) both turned in impressive, consistent showings.

Riley White (3–1) and Caison Shiekh (3–1) provided key wins to keep several duals close.

Gavin DeGroff (3–2), Kai Cogswell (3–2), and Max Hurlbert (3–0) added important victories across the lineup.

Other contributors—including Marzac, Johnson, Orlowski, Levi Hurlbert, Wagenhauser, Murdock, and Ku**er—wrestled hard and gained valuable experience in a demanding slate of matchups.

Looking Ahead

The team’s effort, energy, and continued improvement were clear throughout the day. With more opportunities to build on this foundation, the squad enters the rest of the season with momentum and confidence.

Three SJJ Freshmen competed in the 2025 Andy Bates Memorial last night.
Caison Shiekh claimed the 98 pound title, going 4-0 on the night.
Winning the 138 pound weight class was Jackson Marzec. Jackson went 3-0 for the day.
Also competing at 138 and finishing runner up to his teammate was Jacob Foti. Jacob wrapped up the day at 2-1.

2025–2026 SJJ Wrestling Preview

The 2025–2026 SJJ wrestling team returns a strong core, featuring three seniors, four district qualifiers, and one state qualifier.

Seniors Salar Hashemian, Lucas Wagenhauser, and Max Beck are set to lead the squad in their final season. Among the returning district qualifiers are sophomores Gavin DeGroff and Max Hurlbert, junior Carson Sterns, and senior Max Beck—who is also back as a state qualifier.

The season begins with the freshmen competing at the Maumee Freshman Tournament on Thursday, December 4, hosted at Maumee High School. Varsity action opens on Saturday, December 6, at the Wauseon Duals.
