She became the face of the women's movement. She grew up right here.

Gloria Steinem came up from East Toledo and went on to reshape the conversation about women's rights in America. As a journalist and organizer, she insisted that so-called women's issues belonged in every discussion of politics, economics and public life. She co-founded Ms. magazine, helped launch the National Women's Political Caucus and spent decades speaking across the country. Generations of women who enter college, the workforce and elected office did so on ground she helped clear.

Steinem died yesterday, September 2, at 92.

Beginning in October, listen for a familiar voice sharing the local news.

Jaden Jefferson is joining FM 91 as our guest host during Morning Edition. Once a week for 13 weeks, he'll bring you local and state news at 18 minutes past each hour, alongside NPR's national coverage. Jaden has been reporting on Northwest Ohio since he was 11 years old, covering the politics, policy and community stories that shape life here.

Morning Edition airs Monday through Friday from 6 to 9 a.m.

One of the best fishing spots in the country is fifty feet from a road you have driven a hundred times.

Mario Campos owns Maumee Tackle and has fished Side Cut Metropark nearly his whole life. He explains that downtown Toledo was dredged for Great Lakes shipping and left with thirty feet of mud, while the river from Maumee and Perrysburg kept its natural bottom of rock, brush and shallows.

WGTE belongs to this community, and Thursday night showed that.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the station for our double feature sneak peek of The Marlow Murder Club and Marble Hall Murders. Twenty minutes of each was plenty to get everyone excited for the new seasons. We also loved hearing about your favorite MASTERPIECE shows past and present.

Evenings like this one happen because people here watch, show up and support public media. To the members who help make it possible, we are grateful.

Fish spend every day racing to find food, avoid predators and stick with their group. This episode of Nature Clash asks middle schoolers from Toledo School for the Arts to try it.

At Blue Creek Metropark, two teams take on three challenges built around what survival actually looks like beneath the surface. They cast from canoes, identify native fish, crack a number code and finish out on the water with everything on the line.

Host Randy 5K keeps the energy high while the teams discover that being a fish is harder than it sounds. Only one of them paddles away as Guardians of Blue Creek.
