Every school day counts! Check out the graphic below for key details on Ohio's attendance guidelines and how missing instructional time is calculated:

Excused Absences Count: Under state guidelines, missing school for any reason—excused or unexcused—contributes to chronic absenteeism.

The 10% Threshold: Missing just 2 to 3 days per month can add up to 10% of total school-year hours, putting a student in the chronic absenteeism category.

Chronic Absence vs. Truancy: While truancy focuses strictly on unexcused hours, chronic absenteeism counts total missed instructional time (excused + unexcused). The primary focus is prevention and partnering with families for support.

Medical Notes: Medical and dental notes excuse the absence under district policy, but the hours still count toward total missed instructional time.
