This page is a way to keep parents and guardians informed with the things going on here at Whittier. Go Wolves!!!

We hope that having this page makes it easier to keep parents informed on what's going on at the school. We always have different things going on and sometimes that information doesn't successfully make it home! By having this page parents can see what's on the school menu, when skate night is or just look at pictures to see what students are up to during their school day!

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to reach out to thank those of you who were able to make it to the meeting on November 27th. We are all very excited to help get a new Whittier PTO started, but we need everyone to spread the word! We will be sending updates via email, on Dojo, on the app, and on Facebook as we move forward to try to get more parents involved.

We are still looking for a president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. These positions cannot be filled by anyone who is TPS staff which means none of us can fill these positions so we need your help. If these positions are not filled, we cannot have a PTO at Whittier. This is a state requirement. These positions lend themselves better to parents and guardians who may have a more flexible schedule due to the time commitment. The primary responsibilities of the PTO officers are listed below, though these are not all-encompassing. Please know that we understand how difficult it can be to dedicate and commit your time, but we are very motivated to get this started for the kids and bring back events like movie nights, teen nights, and dances!

- Officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer
- PTO officers must pass a background check (more information on this to come).
- PTO must have a non-interest checking account (501C3) in place with two people attached.
- Every year, taxes must be filed for money coming into and going out of the PTO checking account; use checks to track!
- The PTO must write bylaws that it will follow.

Meetings for the PTO typically occur once a month, and events are held as they are planned. Scheduling and commitments typically pick up around holidays as these are primary times for events. A good website to look at if you have more questions about what being a PTO officer and/or setting up a PTO entails is www.ohiopta.org.

In the meantime, please feel free to help your school in other ways. A great way to get involved is to attach your Kroger card to Whittier so that the school receives additional funds to use toward your students. You can do this by going into your Kroger app, clicking rewards, going to community rewards, searching for an organization, typing in Whittier, and clicking enroll under Whittier Elementary PTO (4221 Walker Avenue, Toledo, OH, 43612). There are no additional steps for you once you do this, and there are no fees associated with it; each time you use your Kroger card, a portion of the proceeds just go straight to Whittier!

We will have another meeting on December 19 from 4 - 5:30. Please join us even if you will be late due to prior commitments. This is open to all Whittier parents. The flier is posted below.

Today, our very own Officer Bob walked the halls, protecting our students, staff, and school, for the very last time.

The staff and students at Whittier want to wish Officer Bob a very happy and restful retirement!!! He will truly be missed walking the halls, engaging with the students and for his sweet treats of snickerdoodle cookies.

He has been a staple here at Whitter the last 5 years. Good luck, safe travels, and ENJOY!
