Last month, our Founder and CEO Rob Coppel had the incredible opportunity to engage with the bright minds at the University of Toledo Transplantation and Donation Sciences Master's Program It was an enlightening experience to engage with the next generation of professionals in this critical field.
Studying Transplantation and Donation Sciences at UToledo offers students hands-on clinical experiences, access to a state-of-the-art simulation center for immersive learning, and valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals and alumni. These elements provide a comprehensive and enriching educational experience for aspiring donation and transplantation professionals.
Raising awareness for programs like these is paramount. Many individuals are unaware of the vast opportunities available in the realm of transplantation and donation sciences. With countless Americans awaiting life-saving transplants, it's imperative to ensure we have a skilled workforce equipped to meet these pressing needs.
Let's continue to raise awareness and support initiatives that save lives!

Weeks 2-4 have been extremely busy!
The TaDS students recently stopped by Life Connection of Ohio's Toledo office and spent time exploring details of their future careers with Frank Thompson and his team. Another field trip brought us to Community Tissue Services in Toledo (now Solvita) to learn about the significant impact of tissue donation on saving and enhancing lives.
The invaluable resources of the Mulford Medical Library on the Health Science Campus were introduced to them with a tour of the facility, as well as a visit to the UToledo SIM Center for an aseptic technique lecture followed by a sterile gowning and gloving practical.
The University of Toledo's own Dr. Joan Duggan popped in to share her mastery of Infectious Disease and Jeremy Sherrill and Nilam P. from Gift of Life Michigan expertly educated the group on Histocompatibility and Virology while Nadine Kalpakidis (HDS/TaDS class of 2016) with Buckeye Transplant Services spent an afternoon presenting on her in depth knowledge of crossmatching and HLA, as well!
The students continue to move forward fiercely in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology - successfully completing their first exam, alongside commencing their clinical observations in the SICU. AND this is just the beginning!
Stay tuned for so much more to come...
If you are interested in participating as a guest lecturer in October or November, please contact me at [email protected] for more information. We would love for you to meet the students and !

There are never any words to describe the final day of Week One. The Donor Family and Recipient Volunteer Panel has the most influence of any other annual TaDS event on the future careers of our students. Each and every alumni can recall their panel members and have channeled them on more than one occasion when a little extra motivation is needed to push their limits for the absolute best outcome on a case.
Our Donor Heroes and their families are the foundation of what we do and connecting with these recipients and hearing their courageous stories only further fuels that passion.
THANK YOU from the core of our being because "Without the Donor, there is no story, no hope, no transplant. But when there is a DONOR HERO, life springs from death, sorrow turns to hope, and a tragic loss becomes the most precious and generous gift..."
A huge shout out to Kelly Valentine and Tracy Kropp from Life Connection of Ohio for coordinating this event and sharing these extremely special individuals with us.
💚💙
