We have a dozen loaves of “squash” bread headed to the freezer… or maybe we’ll keep one out to sample tomorrow!

Did you know zucchini bread tastes great with summer squash and the kids like it even better knowing it’s made with squash from their garden.

Day 2 of small groups and they have it mastered! Preschoolers listen best when their hands are busy so placing their hands on top of their head makes their ears work better. After our first rotation they didn’t even require any prompting!!!

It’s very important that preschoolers learn to listen so they can be safe at school but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun learning!

Our days just keep getting busier! We did small groups once again and the kids did an outstanding job just like yesterday. Not only are they working hard in their groups but when the timer goes off they immediately stop playing and listen for directions. Usually the first Friday of preschool is rough because everyone is getting tired and missing their family but today might have been our best day of the week.

We have been very busy playing in dramatic play (it’s a birthday party!), blocks center and music center all week and today we added the doll house to the mix. The kids are doing a great job cleaning up when they move to different centers and they are very engaged in their activities.

For lunch today we had plans for pizza, honey dew and cantaloupe from our garden but I was still undecided on our veggie. When one of our new friends arrived he put in a request for salad and I couldn’t say no to a boy who wants a salad!

Day 4 and 9 out of 9 preschoolers fell asleep without crying!!! These sweet friends have settled in so nicely!

Today we tried something new… small groups!!! In preschool a lot of our learning occurs during differentiated small groups. Today we learned how to work in our assigned area until the timer went off. This is a very challenging skill for preschoolers but these guys rocked going to 4 different small groups over the course of almost 15 minutes and everyone stayed in their own group the entire time with no redirection! For this first experience the kids were put in groups with one leader and one new friend. Our leaders are doing an excellent job stepping up and kindly teaching their new friends how to be preschoolers. If you see one of our four leaders who have been in preschool for the past year please tell them what a wonderful job they are doing!!!
