Get to know Ben and Rachel!

Rabbi Ben grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, and is currently pursuing rabbinic ordination at Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. After spending two years studying at Yeshivat Har Etzion in Israel, Ben went on to graduate summa cm laude from Yeshiva College with a B.A. in English and was a Straus Scholar at YU’s Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought. Ben has extensive experience working with Jewish young adults at Camp Moshava IO, NCSY, the Tikvah High School Scholars Program, and various fellowships, and has always been awestruck by the amazing communities created on college campuses. Ben loves applying his English literary skills to Tanakh and Midrash; thinking about self-improvement, especially through Judaism; and finding the smoothest hummus around town. Reach out to Ben for a coffee date, general advice, a study partner, to discuss fractional investments, or anything else on your mind!

Rachel Atwood, formerly Rosenberg, was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She previously studied Political Science at Yeshiva University’s Stern College after spending a year in Israel learning at Shaalvim for Women. Rachel has spent her summers working at Moshava Wild Rose, for NCSY, directing a day camp, and interning in various law-related fields. Most recently, she worked as the Assistant Director for the Tikvah Fund’s Overseas Student Institute and the Dean of Students for the Tikvah Scholars Program for high school students. Rachel will be beginning Emory Law School in the Fall, hoping to pursue a career in prosecution. Born to a professional chef and a community-oriented family, Rachel loves hosting large gatherings and creating a home environment in which everyone feels comfortable. Her favorite activities include baking, swimming, reading, and anything outdoors. Additionally, Rachel attended the Atlanta Jewish Academy for high school and is excited to return to the Atlanta community!

Rabbi Ben and Rachel met as co-counselors for NCSY’s TJJ, have worked on many programs together in the past, and look forward to continuing their work as a team of educators. They have a passion for working with Jewish young adults and are excited to become part of the Greater Atlanta college community!

After much hard work and collaboration, OU-JLIC is thrilled to announce our brand new campus, JLIC at Greater Atlanta! Helping us spearhead our expansion is Ben Atwood and Rachel Atwood. Best of luck, we can't wait to see what you'll do!
