📚 Celebrating Georgia Pre-K Week at Liberty Elementary! 📚

Today, Representative Chris Erwin joined our Liberty Elementary Pre-K students for a special reading experience filled with music, movement, and plenty of smiles!

As he read Every Amazing Song, our students clapped, stomped, and joined right in on the fun—turning story time into an unforgettable learning experience!

Representative Erwin also took time to connect with our school administration and leaders about literacy initiatives and the important investment they make in our youngest learners. Building strong literacy skills in Pre-K helps lay the foundation for future success, and we are grateful for leaders who recognize the value of investing in our students from the very beginning.

❤️ Thank you, Representative Erwin, for spending part of Pre-K Week with our Liberty Elementary students and for supporting the importance of early literacy!

This week, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade SPARK students from across Stephens County came together for our very first SPARK Ignite Day!

Ignite Day is a new monthly opportunity designed to bring our gifted learners together to collaborate, explore new interests, and learn from one another through unique enrichment experiences.

For our first Ignite Day, students rotated through hands-on experiences with chess, checkers, and 3D printing, while also supporting our 5th grade young entrepreneurs during their SPARK Classroom Expo.

We were especially excited to welcome Sean Hotalen as our special guest, who shared his knowledge and passion for chess with our students. Students learned about the game, explored the personalities and roles of the chess pieces, and had the opportunity to put their thinking and strategy skills to work.

"I was honored to have the opportunity to share something I am passionate about with the next generation," said Hotalen. "It was very exciting to see how engaged the kids were and how they picked up the game of chess so fast."

SPARK Ignite Day is all about giving students opportunities to think deeply, try something new, collaborate across grade levels, and discover new areas of interest.

What an exciting first Ignite Day—and just the beginning of what’s ahead for our SPARK students!

On Wednesday afternoon, Stephens County football players took a knee as Jeff Gable with the Georgia High School Football Daily presented our team and coaches with the AJC Varsity/Georgia High School Football 'Team of the Week' award!

Out of hundreds of teams across Georgia, only 14 earn this statewide honor during the entire season leading up to the state championship! This award isn't just about the final score—it recognizes total team effort, exceptional performance, and standing strong against top-tier competition.

Our team earned this distinction with an incredible performance in our game against Hart County! The team stayed composed, executed when it mattered most, and rallied together to secure a huge win.

Sincere thanks to our coaches, players, and school administration for their hard work, leadership, and dedication to this program. Special appreciation to the Georgia High School Football Daily Newsletter, as well as award sponsors Siemens Automation and BSN Sports for their continued support of high school athletics!

During the presentation, Jeff Gable shared a reflection from Larry Fitzgerald's NFL Hall of Fame induction speech: "Listen to the people who tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear." Hard work, accountability, and trusting the process are paying off both on and off the field!

Let’s keep this momentum going! GO INDIANS! 🔴⚫

Stephens County Schools is proud to announce that Stephens County High School senior and Head Drum Major Maelynne White has been selected for State School Superintendent Richard Woods’ 2026–2027 Student Advisory Council! Maelynne was chosen from a competitive statewide pool of 1,427 applicants, joining just 84 students across Georgia.

As a council member representing Stephens County and our region, Maelynne will travel to Atlanta for the council's inaugural meeting at the Georgia Department of Education. Throughout the upcoming school year, she will meet directly with Superintendent Woods to offer feedback on state education policies and lead a local community service project.

"As someone who wants to be a future educator, being able to already be a voice for students is truly such a big deal. I am so excited to hear so many perspectives of life and be an advocate for our school system this year to make sure every student, staff, and teacher is represented well!" — Maelynne White

Whether leading the SCHS Marching Band on Friday nights or advocating for her peers at the state level, Maelynne exemplifies the values of leadership and excellence we strive for across Stephens County Schools.

Congratulations, Maelynne! We are all behind you as you represent our district across Georgia!

There’s something special about seeing learning through the eyes of our youngest students — especially when they have lots of questions! 📚❤️

Yesterday, Senator Bo Hatchett visited our Pre-K classrooms at Toccoa Elementary as part of Georgia Pre-K Week. He spent time with our students, reading a story to each class and taking time to answer their many questions. 😊

We are so grateful for his time, his willingness to connect with our students, and his support of early childhood education. Experiences like these help our youngest learners see that their voices, their questions, and their curiosity matter.

Thank you, Senator Hatchett, for spending part of your day with our Pre-K students! We loved having you at Toccoa Elementary! ❤️📖

🥛🍪World School Milk Day, celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of September, this year we celebrated September 30, 2026. First launched in 2000, it has since become a globally recognized event promoted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to highlight the importance of school milk programs in supporting child nutrition and education.

This year our schools celebrated with "Milk and Cookies." We offered whole milk as a choice to students during meal service and fresh baked cookies.
Cafeteria staff had fun decor and festive milk and cow related attire. 🐮

Today, Stephens County High School had the honor of hosting former NCAA Division I athlete and internationally recognized speaker Kevin Atlas.

Standing nearly seven feet tall, Kevin’s physical presence is matched only by his message. Born without his left forearm, he navigated childhood adversity, personal grief, and relentless skepticism to become the first student-athlete missing a limb to earn a full Division I basketball scholarship.

Kevin engaged our high schoolers in an honest conversation about accountability, perspective, and turning life's non-negotiable challenges into personal assets. He challenged our students to take active ownership of their education, ambitions, and personal growth.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Kevin for spending time with our high school campus today and leaving our students with a strong, actionable framework for resilience. 🖤❤️🤍
