Cause I Ain't Got a Pencil by Joshua T. Dickerson - Your Daily Poem

For some of us old-old-old school folks, nothing that says “back to school” like a big bunch of freshly sharpened, yellow No. 2 pencils. So here's a cheer for No. 2 Pencil Day and to the history of longtime pencil-maker Dixon Ticonderoga, whose headquarters are in Lake Mary. The company traces its heritage to 1812, when young Joseph Dixon of Salem, Massachusetts, mixed graphite with clay, rolled it into strips, and baked it in his mother’s oven. The boy pressed the baked graphite into grooved cedar wood, and the first Dixon pencil was born, according to company lore. Write on, pencil fans.
