What are some of the main challenges for food safety compliance?
One of the big conerns is that staff at large/multi-site food businesses do not always follow the required food safety processes. Corners are often cut to save time (sometimes by staff that are not fully trained on food safety issues) and this can put the business reputation and revenue at risk – in the event of their being a non-compliance issue or a customer making a food borne illness claim. Mandatory Country-of-Origin Meat Labeling Now In Effect
As of Saturday, Nov. 23, the labels on some grocery store meat will now be required to indicate from where it came.
While the rules is being contested in court by meat industry stakeholders and the governments of Canada and Mexico, mandatory country-of-origin labeling (COOL) on meat requires that retailers identify the specific country where the animal was born, raised and slaughtered.
The labeling rule covers muscle cuts of beef, chicken, pork, lamb and goat. Processed, deli, and ground meats are exempt.
