Painted Oak Painted Oak is a progressive nature school for children ages 30 mos to 14 years old.

What began as Painted Oak Nature School has grown into a living Painted Oak ecosystem—sharing stories, learning, coaching, and nature-rooted experiences inspired by more than a decade outdoors with children and families. Located in Hopewell, NJ, we serve the communities of Hopewell Valley including Pennington, Titusville, Hopewell, Lambertville, Princeton, Ewing and Lawrenceville. At Painted Oak, we believe that childhood is a time of wonder and magic, a time to ask questions and be given the time to find the answers, a time to play, to imagine, and to explore. We maintain a slow pace that allows children time to discover, question, and research their curiosities. Likewise, by slowing down, teachers are better able to listen to their students, to observe, and document their interests, thereby creating curriculum projects that are inspired by the children themselves. Drawing from student interest and parent feedback, our teachers facilitate an emergent curriculum that allows for in-depth explorations and investigations to take shape over the course of days, weeks, and sometimes even months. Our nature-centered program revolves around imaginative play, outdoor exploration, and creative expression. Painted Oak puts the natural development of children, as well as the close relationships they share with their environment, at the center of its mission.

A last-minute invitation for families looking for more time outside this fall...

Painted Oak is starting two small nature-based programs next week, and we still have room for a few more children.

One is for Caregivers and young children to explore together, and the other is an Afternoon Forest School for children who would benefit from ending their day outside — climbing, wandering, building, creating, and spending time with a small group of children in the woods.

After spending more than a decade building Painted Oak Nature School, I'm really excited to be offering these smaller programs again this fall. We intentionally keep our groups small, and both programs will run even with just a handful of children.

If you've been wishing your child had more time outside, or you're looking for something a little different from the typical after-school enrichment class, I'd love to have you take a look.

We begin next week, and registration is still open.
