A century after the Cathedral of Learning began rising above Oakland, its story remains one of awe, aspiration and people.

Pitt Chancellor John Bowman envisioned more than a building. He wanted a tower that would inspire Pittsburgh’s immigrants and working families to see higher education—and a different future — as within their reach.

The Cathedral was built to reach toward the sky. Its deeper purpose was to lift people with it. https://pitt.ly/4xvijQm

September 11, 2001.

A day that changed our nation and left an unimaginable wound in the hearts of millions.

We remember the thousands of innocent lives taken that day. We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, first responders, military members, and ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable horror.

We remember the families who lost mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, spouses, siblings, and friends—and all those whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day.

And we remember those who continue to carry the pain, loss, and lasting consequences of September 11, 2001.

May we never reduce that day to a date in history. Behind every number was a person. Behind every name was a life, a family, a story, and people who loved them.

Today, we honor their memory.

We grieve the lives lost.
We stand with those who continue to carry the scars.
And we remember the courage, compassion, and humanity shown in the darkest hours.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

September 11, 2001 — forever remembered.

Today we're celebrating the little symbol that says it all👉& 💙💛

At the Education & Training Center at Pitt-Titusville, the ampersand isn't just part of our name. It's where education & opportunity, training & success, community & growth come together.

DID YOU KNOW…

- The ampersand used to be the last letter of the alphabet?
- It is a ligature of “e” & “t”? That’s “et” in Latin, meaning “and”?
- The word “ampersand” is a slurring of “real words” run together over time?
- The plus sign is actually an ampersand?

Happy World Ampersand Day! ✨

💙💛 !

Each year on September 8, we celebrate the fun & functional curly & quirky little character on World Ampersand Day.
