As Dairy Month comes to a close, for the Tenley family, dairy farming is more than a seasonal celebration, it’s a way of life. Cedar County Farm Bureau Board Member Lakaya Tenley and her husband, Tanner, own and operate a dairy just outside of Mechanicsville, where they continue to grow their passion for agriculture and community connection.
Now one year into their MilkHouse Market journey, the Tenley's have transformed their vision into reality. With the support of the Iowa Farm Bureau’s Grow Your Future Award, where they earned the first place prize, they have successfully expanded their direct-to-consumer offerings. When asked what’s next, Lakaya shared her excitement about continued growth. “We’re thrilled to see how the market and our delivery routes are expanding,” she said. “We’re also strongly considering hosting farm-to-table dinners this fall to enhance the direct to consumer experience.”
The Tenleys’ Jersey herd produces an impressive 19,000 gallons of milk each year, making it no surprise that Lakaya’s favorite dairy product is fresh whole milk. “It’s such a versatile product that can serve your family in so many ways,” she shared.
In addition to fresh milk, MilkHouse Market offers a variety of locally sourced meats, cheeses, and ice cream. To learn more about the Tenley farm and follow their journey, be sure to find them on Facebook!
