Dr. Maria Montessori died on this day in 1952, in Noordwijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. Her gravestone reads: I beg the dear all-powerful children to unite with me for the building of peace in man and in the world.
Let us celebrate her life by carrying out this vision.

Hello to our new followers! Montessori classrooms are mixed age environments…the reason why it works?
☀️Lessons are individualized and child-led to engage children in interesting and meaningful activities for any age or ability.
☀️Children have the freedom to communicate leading to enhanced language development.
☀️Our environments offer opportunities to observe. Any child can observe and absorb information, technique, and skills to expand their work.
☀️Mixed age classes eliminate competition. There is no “one” presentation or expectation where children feel competitive. Mixed age settings promote individual learning!

We are looking for Montessori guides who want to be part of our school from its infancy. JMS is located in the East Mountains of the greater Albuquerque area in the beautiful town of Tijeras. As we build our school from the ground up, we are designing our indoor and outdoor environments to best fit the principles of the Association Montessori Internationale. 💚

At a certain point in their development, children begin to reject offers of help from the adult. This occurs when the child begins to seek a new level of independence.

✨One of the foundations of Montessori education is to support the child’s need for independence by “helping the child to help themselves.”

✨We offer opportunities for children to participate in activities they observe in their everyday social and physical environments.

✨From learning how to communicate, dress oneself, prepare food, care for their environment, and refine their movements—children are acting on their greatest need for a realistic sense of independence and self reliance. 💜

115 years ago Dr. María Montessori began an experiment that far exceeded her expectations. It was not her courage to accept the invitation, but her ability to see with clear eyes what was unfolding and her willingness to risk her career to deepen her studies and inspire others to replicate the experiment that is so remarkable. I appreciate the brilliance and patience of researchers like Angeline Lillard and her forerunner in research, Maria Montessori. I celebration of every one who sees the hope for the world’s future in each child’s heart, your work, our shared work, is a blessing for humanity. Tim Seldin

New research highlights the long-term benefits of a Montessori education.

The Montessori classroom is prepared with the child in mind. Often referred to as The Children's House, it is designed to remove obstacles and include appropriate materials that can be freely explored by the child at their own pace and interest.

The prepared environment is beautiful, spacious, orderly, reflects reality through the use of real materials, and connects children to nature.
