Rule Reveal: The Three Sounds of -ED!

Did you know that the past-tense ending -ed can make THREE different sounds? Let’s break it down!
🔹 /t/ as in jumped, walked, kissed
🔹 /d/ as in played, cleaned, called
🔹 /ed/ as in wanted, needed, started

Helpful Hint: When a word ends in a /t/ or /d/ sound, the -ed ending adds an extra syllable! Otherwise, -ed blends right into the word without adding a syllable. Understanding these patterns helps young readers become more confident decoders and spellers!

Is your child a hesitant reader? Try Echo Reading! It’s simple, supportive, and really effective.
