This changed my life! The 1977 Stan Kenton Summer Jazz Camp / Clinic & Doc Rutherford from Orange Coast College. It birthed so many great players.

I barely fledged through the clinic, but learned so much.

I landed in the top band ... Hank Levy's band and if you know his music at all, all his charts were beasts! Thanks to Bill Liston on 1st tenor, he got me through that summer band.

I asked Hank to demote me to a lower band, and he felt I would not learn or be challenged if he did that. So I started practicing 3-4 hours a day to keep my head above water. This was my first real big band experience!
