🌟 Meet our student speakers for Commencement 2026!

Manuel Vega ’26 and Abigail Marin Iniestra ’26 will be featured during the undergraduate ceremony.

Vega is graduating from the Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals program with a degree in psychological and behavioral science. Raised in Oxnard's La Colonia neighborhood, he served in the Marine Corps and with the Los Angeles and Oxnard police departments. Vega founded the mentorship program Pedaling Against Youth Violence and Anacapa Water Blasting, Inc., a service-disabled veteran-owned business. He and his family started the nonprofit Save Our Servicemembers and the Patrick Vega Swim Scholarship.

Iniestra is graduating with bachelor's degrees in criminology and criminal justice and Spanish, and a minor in legal studies. She is a low-income, first-generation Mexican-American student who is actively involved on campus as a senior senator, co-president of Women in Law and president of the Languages and Cultures Club. She is a legal intern for a professor in the criminology department and hopes to support the Latino community by becoming a prosecuting attorney and a Spanish-language interpreter in the court system.

The featured speakers for this afternoon’s graduate ceremony are Elicia Faith Morman, MBA ’26, and Megan Fischer, EdD ’26.

Morman earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Cal Lutheran in 2009 and is graduating with her Executive MBA. She serves as an executive administrative partner to the global operations director in Eaton’s Aerospace Division. Morman also serves on the executive board of Women of Substance and Men of Honor and is dedicated to supporting foster and at-risk youth in both Ventura and L.A. counties by providing housing, mentorship and job coaching for young adults transitioning out of care.

Fischer joined the Psychology Department at Cal Lutheran in 2020 after nearly a decade of teaching in the community college district. She advises The Hidden Opponent Club (dedicated to student-athlete mental health) and is president of the Graduate and Professional Student Council and director of Retention and Transition Programs.

You can watch their remarks on the livestream at CalLutheran.edu/commencement.

Cal Lutheran to Welcome New Marymount Scholars with $1.3 Million Commitment 04/24/2026

A $1.325 million, four-year pledge from the Marymount Education Foundation is offering transformative scholarships to 10 additional incoming Cal Lutheran students from the Greater Los Angeles area.

The Marymount Scholars Program began last year following the foundation’s initial commitment to support seven students. The number of scholars will now grow to 17, including six first-year and four transfer students, who will receive renewable scholarships aimed at easing the costs of tuition, housing, meals, textbooks and study abroad while fostering professional development opportunities.

The program's origins reach back to 2022, when Marymount California University closed its doors, and the foundation looked to other private universities to continue its mission of bringing positive change by improving accessibility, degree attainment and community initiatives.

Robyn K. Jones, the foundation’s executive director, described the partnership with Cal Lutheran as “grounded in a shared belief that students deserve access to a high-quality private education, along with the resources and mentorship needed to succeed.”

“At Cal Lutheran, we believe education has the power to transform lives — and partnerships like this one are how that belief becomes reality,” President John Arthur Nunes said.

It was incredible to gather with our community at last week's State of the University event and share the momentum propelling Cal Lutheran toward a bright future.

Joined by special guests from Angel City Football Club and Amgen, President Nunes and his leadership team reflected on the commitments driving our university forward: forging strong partnerships with our community and businesses in the region; providing innovative experiential learning and career pathways to our students; and making mission-driven investments, fueled by your support, through the launch of “Where Dreams Take Flight: The Campaign for Cal Lutheran.”
