The Montecito International Music Festival is open to outstanding string, clarinet, flute, oboe and piano students, ages 13 and up (with possible exceptions for highly gifted students). Participants will experience three weeks of intensive focus on technique and musicianship. Each student will receive two one-hour private lessons and two coached chamber music sessions per week. Selected students w
ill also participate in master classes, studio classes, recitals, concertos with chamber orchestra, and chamber ensembles with our esteemed faculty. World-class pianists will accompany master classes, lessons and student concerts. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of our morning yoga classes and mountain hiking trails. Our mission combines mentoring a new generation of musicians with honoring great masters who have inspired us. We pay homage to today's masters every summer, inviting magnificent musicians from around the globe. Festival Facilities:
The Festival will take place July 12–31, 2014, on the beautiful campus of Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. CLU boasts idyllic surroundings, superb facilities, ideal climate and close proximity to all the musical and recreational opportunities of the Los Angeles/Southern California area. Participants will be housed in modern fully-furnished dormitory rooms, two or three persons per room, and will have access to 24-hour practice rooms. Application procedure:

The completed general application form, the audition recording and the non-refundable application fee of $85 ($120 for a Fellowship application, $95 for a Junior Fellowship application) must be postmarked by March 15, 2014 or, for scholarship or Fellowship consideration, by March 1, 2014. Please submit a high-quality recording (DVD/VHS preferred, CD/cassette accepted) of two contrasting pieces of any length. Applicants for a Fellowship or Junior Fellowship must submit a 30-minute DVD recording. Be sure to label any recorded material with your name and instrument
Notification of Acceptance:
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by April 5, 2014
Scholarships:
Eight full-scholarship Fellowships will be offered, two each for violin, viola, cello and piano. Six Junior Fellowships will also be awarded, providing a $1000 scholarship to a Junior or High School student in each instrument group. Additionally, Junior Fellowship students will perform in a special Junior Fellowship Concert. Applications for Fellowships must include a 30-minute DVD of at least two contrasting pieces demonstrating musical and technical ability, two letters of recommendation and the non-refundable application fee ($120 for Fellowship, $95 for Junior Fellowship). Distinguished cellist and professor of Cello, Andrew Shulman, from Thornton School of Music at USC, will be in residence for Session 1. He will conduct a masterclass focused on Bach’s suites for solo cello and offer private lessons to selected students.
