Habit 1: Be Proactive — You're in Charge of You!
During September, our school is focusing on Habit 1: Be Proactive. Being proactive means taking responsibility for your actions, attitudes, and choices instead of waiting for things to happen or blaming others.
What Habit 1 Looks Like at School
Raising a hand to ask for help when stuck on a math problem
Starting work right away without reminders
Keeping school supplies organized
Pausing before reacting when frustrated
Choosing kind words during recess conflicts
Taking responsibility when making a mistake
How Families Can Reinforce Habit 1 at Home
Establish a consistent homework area and routine
Encourage your child to check their own backpack every afternoon and track their assignments independently
Encourage your child to handle small personal tasks on their own, such as picking out their clothes, packing a water bottle, or cleaning up after meals.
Proactive Language to Try at Home:
"What can you do to fix this problem?"
"You have the power to choose your mood today."
"Let's pause and think about our choices before we react."
