Ascension Lutheran School is a private school located in Thousand Oaks, CA for elementary and middle school students grades TK-8. Ascension has been offering academic excellence in a caring Christian community for over 55 years. Our students consistently score in the top 15% of students nationally on the SAT10 test. 73% of our exceptional faculty hold a master's degree or higher. Our school has been accredited with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for 19 years. A hallmark of student life at Ascension is the emphasis placed on the development of the whole student. While opportunities abound for students to excel academically through our rigorous curriculum, we strive to offer co-curricular programs that foster spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and social development. The most important quality of our school is the environment that ensures each student’s gifts are noticed and nurtured. Students are encouraged to use those gifts to make the community and the world a better place. With this support system behind them, our students possess a solid foundation grounded in self-awareness, confidence and ethics, positioning them to become the next generation of bold compassionate leaders as they transition to high school and beyond. A signature characteristic of Ascension students is compassion. This trait is nurtured by providing a myriad of opportunities for students to participate in service projects each year. Local and global outreach programs help students to understand some of the issues facing our world and how they can be part of the solution. Some examples include packing shoe boxes filled with gifts for Operation Christmas Child, making blankets for ill children through Project Linus, sponsoring a food drive for the local MANNA food bank, and supporting projects in Africa through the Gifts of Hope campaign. Students also participate in a Global Village experience – a hands-on activity that raises awareness for issues faced in countries around the world. Leadership skills are fostered from the time children begin Transitional Kindergarten. Their confidence is built as effective communicators through participating in speech meets, leading and singing in chapel, and giving oral presentations. Students are encouraged in the area of entrepreneurial leadership through integrated programs such our annual tomato sales project. Middle School students have targeted leadership curriculum through outdoor school programs and special workshops. Student Council provides a venue for students to put their leadership skills into action. Schedule a tour and discover the Ascension Advantage. http://www.alschool.org/.
