Cypress joined the California Association of IB World Schools last year and had the honor of nominating a student for the award “CAWS Student of the Year”.
This year, Norah was nominated and selected!
She has been a student at Cypress for 7 years and has approached her learning at school with curiosity and compassion.
For the IB Exhibition she explored the history and injustices of Iranian Women. Her passion for justice and her desire to honor her family led her to do this work. She interviewed her grandmother and wrote a letter that was published in the Acorn. Parts of the interview were shared on CubTV.
When given agency, she has chosen to challenge inequality and advocate for human rights and equity. For these reasons she has been chosen as the 2025-2026 California Association of IB World Schools Student of the Year for Cypress Elementary.
Cypress is grateful to have walked this part of the journey with you and we look forward to seeing you continue to impact the world.

The fifth grade classes conclude their elementary experience in the unit "How We Express Ourselves" where they explore the central idea, “artistic expressions influence our lives”. The International Baccalaureate program is designed through collaborative learning. For this learning experience, students were arranged into groups to choose music, choreograph their own dance and perform for the Cypress community. Year after year we are dazzled by their courage and creativity. This was the first time that they performed for all the students at a special assembly. Grateful for the collaboration of staff (especially Coach Burks, Mrs. Sherrard, Mr. Walker and Mrs McDonald—as well as the whole
Teaching staff to prioritize the time) to make this happen.

Our 5th grade girls honored our beloved TK Teacher Mrs Ross this morning. We will miss her deeply but congratulate her on her well deserved retirement!
Dear Cypress Family,
Thirty-three years ago, I began a journey that would ultimately define my life’s work. As I prepare to retire and enter this next chapter, my heart is full of gratitude for the Cypress community.
To the inquisitive children who inspired me daily, the families who supported me, and the incredible staff I’ve been honored to work alongside: thank you for being my second family. You have made this career more rewarding than I ever imagined possible. While I am moving on to new adventures, I carry the memories of our time together with me.
I’m sure our paths will cross again "around town."
