Some training days just fill your cup and today in Cornell was one of them. 💛

Thank you to the incredible teachers, leaders, and especially my friend, Superintendent Paul Schley, for such a warm welcome. We spent the day diving into Teacher Clarity, Explicit Instruction, evidence-based instructional practices, and curriculum implementation, and I loved the thoughtful conversations and enthusiasm for continuous improvement.

It was also a special day because it marked Gretchen's first on-site training in her new role. Watching her step into this next chapter with confidence made me so proud.

Thank you, Cornell, for investing in your educators and ultimately, your students. We can't wait to see what’s ahead! 💙

What a fantastic three days spent with the dedicated teachers in Iroquois! It was a privilege to work alongside such an enthusiastic, engaged, and committed group as we planned instruction for the upcoming school year.

The collaboration, thoughtful discussions, and shared commitment to providing meaningful learning experiences for students were evident in every session. It's always inspiring to see educators investing their time and energy into refining their practice and preparing for a successful year ahead.

Thank you to everyone for your openness, hard work, and passion for teaching. I can't wait to see the incredible impact you'll have on your students this year!

Training Day Spotlight 💛

One of my favorite parts of what I do isn't just teaching - it's getting to spend the day with incredible people like Sarah.

We laugh, we learn, we solve problems, and somehow the day flies by.

Thank you for making every training so much fun. I appreciate you more than you know!

In this new episode of Grit & Grace: A Literacy Journey, I sit down with Diane Lyon for a powerful conversation about dyslexia, literacy advocacy, and turning research into meaningful action.

Diane brings more than 30 years of experience in literacy advocacy, education, research, and coalition building. Her perspective is also deeply personal. She has lived experience with dyslexia, both as an individual and as a parent.

We talk about the role of families, evidence-based instruction, advocacy, and why struggle does not have to define a student’s outcome.

A strong lesson starts long before students walk into the classroom.

Taking a few moments to think through these questions can help create learning experiences that are intentional, engaging, and focused on student success.

Which question do you find yourself coming back to most often?

One of my favorite parts of this work is spending the day with educators who are eager to learn, ask great questions, and think deeply about how to strengthen instruction.

It was such a pleasure working with this incredible team in Lockport as we developed their Instructional Focus Plan for the upcoming school year. I'm grateful for the conversations, the collaboration, and the shared commitment to improving outcomes for students. I can't wait to see where this work leads.
