5th grade students used 1 sq in unit tiles to build area models of as many rectangles as possible for given products. This activity was used to aid in identifying factor pairs which enabled students to identify and categorize the product/number as a prime or composite. Math can and should be hands on and fun!

Fifth grade had to join some classes today for intervention time so for enrichment, we brought out good old puzzles to challenge them to figure out how to work as a team to put together a 100 piece puzzle. One group had a bigger challenge of 200 pieces. The conversations were amazing as they organized as a team and worked. We need to do these things more often!!!
